Woman Arrested For Stealing, Docked Unclad In Court
A mild drama played out at Isolo Magistrate’s court in Lagos when a
28-year old woman, Ms Tessy Michael, who attempted to escape trial over
criminal charges by pulling off her clothes remaining her under wear and
bra to scare the police at the station, was docked in her semi-nude
state.
Tessy. who hails from Owerri, Imo State, was arrested by the police at Ajao Estate division for allegedly stealing and taken to the station. She, however, created a scene as she striped herself while she was being moved to the court for trial.
Police, however took the suspect to the court and docked half-unclad thereby foreclosed her trick.
Her weird appearance at the court amused both the litigants and others who were present in court.
The prosecutor, Mr. A.U. Ojei said she had to be brought to court and arraigned like that after much persuasion on her to dress up failed.
According to PM Express, Tessy was arrested for allegedly stealing a Toyota High Lander vehicle brain box and side mirror worth N200,000, properties of one Victor Akazue.
Before she allegedly escaped from the scene of the crime, one of the residents who saw her when she was removing the items exposed her and the matter was reported to the police.
When she was eventually arraigned, she pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, A.K. Shonubi granted her bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.
Tessy has been was remanded in prison pending when she will be able to meet her bail condition.

The trend in Lagos police stations is that DPOs don't keep accused persons. Anyone arrested is taken to court and from there remanded in prison. Most police cells are crowded already.
