Bumper entry brightens 2018 Kili Marathon
REGISTRATION for the 2018 Kilimanjaro Marathon has recorded an overwhelming turnout in Dar es Salaam as thousands thronged the Mlimani City grounds to register and then collect their participation numbers.
The exercise took place over the weekend with participants from Dar es Salaam and neighbouring regions rushing to complete the exercise before the March 4 event. “We are pleased with the response so far and this is an indication that the event has gained global popularity,” said the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Brand Manager, Pamela Kikuli, whose beer is the main sponsor.
She said this year’s event is likely to beat the 10,000 entry recorded last year. “For this year, our main message at the marathon is enjoy your number one beer after running but do not drink and drive,” she stressed. Tigo’s Communications Manager, Woinde Shisael said as the sponsors of the 21km Half Marathon, they have seen a tremendous turnout so far and they expect more participants for this race that has gained more popularity over the years.
“The response is overwhelming and we thank Tanzanians for continuing to use Tigopesa to register, but we are appealing to those registering via it to ensure they pay to confirm their participation so they can get race numbers,” she said.
The Grand Malt Marketing Manager, Warda Kimaro whose malt drink sponsors the 5km Fun Run said, “For sure the response this year is quite promising and it shows how Moshi will be busy come Sunday.
Our race involves people of different ages hence we are calling on participants to register early enough,” she said. After Dar es Salaam, the registration process will shift to Arusha on February 27 and 28 at Kibo Palace Hotel later to Moshi on March 1 and 2.
Other sponsors include First National Bank, Kilimanjaro Water, Diamond Motors Ltd, Kibo Palace, KK Security, Keys Hotel, TPC Sugar, Simba Cement, KNAUF Gypsum and AAR as the official Medial Partner.
This year’s race, organised by Wild Frontiers and Deep Blue Media and nationally coordinated by Executive Solutions, will start and finish at the Moshi Cooperatives University on March 4.
